Ziping Zhao is an Assistant Professor with the School of Information Science and Technology (SIST) at ShanghaiTech University, Shanghai, China, where he joined in December 2019. He received the Ph.D. degree (HK PhD Fellow) in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Hong Kong in 2019. Before that, he received a B.Eng. degree with Honours in Electronic and Information Engineering (ranked 1st for 4 years in a row) from the Qiming Honors College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China in 2014. He has held several visiting research positions in University of Minnesota, Twins City, MN, USA and HKUST, Hong Kong.

His current research interests are primarily in mathematical foundations (especially, computational and statistical) of data science and artificial intelligence. He is also interested in developing novel machine learning models for various applications particularly in big data analytics.
