A way to have nondestructive testing in curved carbon fiber materials
Carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) has the advantages of light weight and high strength, and is widely employed in various industrial products, such as aerospace, advanced ships, new cars, wind turbine blades, pressure vessels and high-speed centrifuges. Defects and damages occurred in CFRP structures in the process of manufacturing and using will affect the reliability of materials, endanger the safety of equipment, and even cause catastrophic accidents. Using nondestructive testing technol

ShanghaiTech Laboratory for Topological Physics demonstrates thickness dependent quantum anomalous Hall effect and related topological phase transition
The quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect, an important research direction in the field of condensed matter physics, is generatedby the spontaneous magnetization of the material itself without relying on a strong magnetic field. When a perpendicular magnetic moment is introduced into the host topological insulators, the broken time-reversal symmetry lifts the spin degeneracy and gives rise to the formation of the QAH state. The QAH effect shows good promise for applications. The quantum Hall state

SIST researchers develop a mid-infrared hyperchaos laser source
Recently, Associate Professor Wang Cheng’s group at SIST developed a broadband hyperchaos laser source in the mid-infrared regime. The related work has been published inLight: Science Applicationsin an article entitled “Mid-infrared hyperchaos of interband cascade lasers”.Chaos is a ubiquitous phenomenon in nature, and is a disordered behavior similar to a random process generated by a deterministic dynamic system. Atmosphere is a typical chaotic system, which was first found in 1963 by Edward

New algorithm speeds up 3D ultrasound spine imaging
With the advantages of non-radiation, non-invasive and flexible operation, the 3D ultrasound imagingtechnique has been greatly refined and applied in medical imaging and diagnosis. In general, the 3D ultrasound imaging system is comprised of a conventional ultrasound probe and a location sensor, which can generate 2D transverse images and the corresponding spatial information needed for the subsequent reconstruction process of rebuilding these data into a 3D space. However, to scan a complete sp
