
Yu Liu is presently an Assocaite Professor (tenured) in the School of Information Science and Technology (SIST), ShanghaiTech University. He also serves as the director of the Center for Intelligent Power and Energy Systems (CiPES), and the co-chair of the Recruitment and Admissions (GRA) Committee, in SIST.
Yu Liu received the Bachelor degree of Electric Power Engineering and Automation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, in 2011. He was a visiting scholar in Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, United States, in 2012. In 2013, he received the Master degree of Electric Power Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, and the Master degree of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, United States. In 2017, he received the Ph.D. degree of Electrical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, United States. He joined SIST, ShanghaiTech University in 2017 and was promoted as Tenured Associate Professor, in July 2023. His research interests include AC/DC power system protection and fault location, power system state/parameter estimation, and condition monitoring of power electronic systems. Dr. Yu Liu was selected in Shanghai municipal education commission Talent Program. He is the director of Shanghai Municipal First Class Undergraduate Course and Shanghai Municipal Key Course "Electric Circuits". He is a member of CES power system control and protection committee, and a member of Shanghai CSEE automatic control committee. He is the PI of a general program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the PI of a youth program of National Natural Science Foundation of China. He was awarded IEEE PES Outstanding Young Talents Award of Power System Relaying & Control Satellite Committee - China (2024), CES Power System Control and Protection Committe Outstanding Member Award (2024), IEEE PES Outstanding Working Group for Outstanding Technical Report Award (Working Group member, society level award, 2023), IET RPG Best Paper Award (2023), Shanghai Municipal Young Faculty Teaching Competition Excellence Award (2022), Outstanding Faculty Award of ShanghaiTech University (2021, 2019), SIST Excellent Teaching Award of ShanghaiTech University (2021, 2019), IET RPG Best Paper Award (2019), IEEE NAPS Best Paper Award (2018), Shanghai Pujiang Scholar (2018), PSERC IAB Meeting Best Poster Award (2015), Stellar Scholarship of Georgia Tech (2011), Shanghai Outstanding Graduates Award (2011). He also actively participated in academic services. He is the Associate Editor of IET Renewable Power Generation (RPG), Editorial Member of Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems (PCMP), and the Guest Editor of Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy (MPCE). He served as the chair of panel session/special sessions in IEEE PESGM, IET RPG conference.
