
Xùmíng Hé is an Associate Professor at the School of Information Science and Technology, currently serving as the Associate Dean and Co-Chair of the Degree Committee.
Dr. Hé obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2008. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). From 2010 onwards, he has held positions as a Researcher and Senior Researcher at the National ICT Australia and Australian National University. His research focuses on computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence for science, with particular emphasis on open-world scene understanding, multimodal data understanding and generation, few-shot and imbalanced data learning, lifelong learning, and novel class discovery. He has published over 100 papers in leading international journals and conferences, including Nature Communications, IEEE TPAMI, Nano Letters, NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, and ICCV. His work has been cited over 8,000 times on Google Scholar. His mentored papers have received the Best Paper Award at the IEEE CVPR Workshop in 2017, the Best Student Paper Award at IEEE FG 2023, and first place in the ICCV 2023 OOD-CV competition. He was awarded the First Prize in the Shanghai Teaching Excellence Awards in 2022. Dr. Hé has frequently served as an area chair for leading AI conferences such as ICCV, ECCV, CVPR, and NeurIPS, and is an Associate Editor for the international journal TMLR. He also serves as the Director of the Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Vision and Imaging.
