Dr. Jiahao Chen received the B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Zhejiang University, China, in 2014 and 2019, respectively. From 2018 to 2019, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, WI, USA. From 2020 to 2022, he was a post-doctoral research fellow with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Since December 2022, he has been a tenure-track Assistant Professor with School of Information Science and Technology, ShanghaiTech University, China.
His early research focuses on developing stable adaptive observer for sensorless control of ac motor drive, and he was later involved in design of bearingless motor for high power industrial applications during his visit to UW-Madison. He is generally interested in the topic of reducing mechanical components in electric drives, including rotor position sensor, gearbox, and contact bearing. He is currently conducting research in maglev system and bipedal robot. Dr. Chen has been open sourcing his codes for motor control simulation and bearingless motor optimization (see https://github.com/horychen). Dr. Chen teaches undergraduate course “Introduction to Control” and graduate course “Electric Machine and Motion Control”.
