Dr. Kan Ren is currently an Assistant Professor at ShanghaiTech University. Previously, he held positions at Microsoft Research Asia as a Senior Researcher. His primary research areas encompass data mining and machine learning, specifically focusing on spatiotemporal data modeling and foundation models, deep reinforcement learning and AI agents, and their applications in healthcare, recommendation systems, and finance.

Dr. Ren has contributed over forty research papers in top-tier conferences and journals within the field of data mining and machine learning, including NeurIPS, ICLR, KDD, SIGIR, AAAI, among others. He has also served as a program committee member for conferences such as NeurIPS and KDD, and as a reviewer for journals like JMLR and TKDE. He is the author of the book Recommendation Systems: Frontiers and Practices.

He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Technology from Zhejiang University and his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Technology from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
