Abstract:

Energy Storage Systems (ESS) are crucial components in dc microgrids, offering flexible power and energy services, that require high conversion efficiency. Operating at 800V, as opposed to 400V, significantly reduces conduction losses, positioning the 800V bus as a promising evolution for dc microgrids. However, the transition to a high-voltage bus introduces new challenges for power electronics converters, necessitating advanced design and control strategy to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.

Input-Parallel-Output-Series (IPOS) Dual-Active-Bridge (DAB) converter presents an appealing approach in energy storage integrated high-voltage dc microgrids, because of its reduced voltage and current stress on switches and flexibility in transferring bidirectional power, but the wide voltage range of the energy storage battery introduces significant challenges to the optimal design of the DAB converter.

In this talk, a hybrid modulation scheme will be introduced to enhance the wide voltage range efficiency of IPOS DAB converters in 800V microgrids. The approach combines Asymmetrical Pulse-Width Modulation (APWM), Phase-Shift Modulation (PSM) and Coupled Inductor Modulation, optimizing the rms current and the ZVS soft-switching range when the converter operates within a wide input voltage range. Thus, the efficiency of the converter is enhanced.
