On December 19th, 2019, School of Information Science and Technology (SIST) of ShanghaiTech University kicked off the third Young Scholar Forum. The total of 26 young scholars from world-renowned universities and institutions such as Stanford University, Texas A & M University, Boston University and Nanyang Technological University attended this forum.
Jiang Mianheng, the President of ShanghaiTech University, Yin Jie, Vice President and Provost of ShanghaiTech University, Zhou Yu, the Director of Human Resources and Yu Jingyi, the vice dean of SIST attended the Forum and expressed heartfelt welcome to all the scholars. President Jiang had a short conversation with scholars. He kindly asked each scholar’s research interest and answered related questions. Vice President Yin gave a brief introduction of ShanghaiTech University. He emphasized that ShanghaiTech University is committed to building a small, high-level and international research and innovation university. We encourage teachers to do original research individually and also pay much attention on undergraduate students’ cultivation. Dean Yu’s talk focused on SIST development. He gave a detailed introduction of SIST from the perspectives of faculty team, research centers and student cultivation.
This young scholar forum lasted two days. After the opening ceremony on December 19th, a presentation and academic discussion will be held according to different research area branch. Twenty-six young scholars made wonderful academic reports on artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, device fabrication, power system, wireless communication and other fields. Teachers and students present at this event also put forward their own opinions and had a constructive discussion on related issues. At the afternoon of December 20th, young scholars visited Nano Laboratory and kindergarten affiliated to ShanghaiTech University. After visitingthose places, these young scholars have a better understanding of our research platform and the education environment for their children.
In the year of 2019, SIST has held young scholar forum for three times. The activity has gradually become the significant platform for new faculty recruitment.
