The 45th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IECON 2019) was held in Lisbon, Protugal, from October 14 to 17, 2019. More than 3,000 industry experts, researchers, and academics from all over the world attended the conference. They shared ideas and experiences on the areas of electronics, controls, manufacturing, communications and computational intelligence in regards to the frontier technologies, breakthrough and innovative solutions and applications. SIST Professor Fu Minfan’s group attended the conference, and Mr. Zhao Peng received IES Student & Young Professionals Paper Assistance (IES-SYPA). This program aims at encouraging engineering young professionals and students to present their R&D work in Industrial Electronics, and develop networking connections. There are 16 IES-SYPA recipients in this year’s competition, and each of them will be offered up-to USD 2,000 travel costs reimbursement.
The awarded paper is entitled “A Novel Wireless Fast Charger Using Unregulated IPT Stage”. Due to the low-efficiency issue caused by reductant power conversion and isolation stages, this paper proposes a novel wireless fast charger based on the unregulated inductive power transfer (IPT) stage. A prototype is implemented and tested. Its efficiency achieves a 9% improvement compared to the state-of-the-art product. This work is jointly completed by the groups of Prof. Fu Minfan and Prof. Liu Yu. Mr. Zhao Peng, a graduate student from Prof. Fu Minfan’s group, is the first author, and graduate students Miss He Rong and Miss Yue Kang are the co-authors. The research is funded by ShanghaiTech University Startup Foundation and Shanghai Sailing Program.
