On December 12, Prof.Shuo-Yen Robert Li, a well-known international scholar on mathematics, outstanding scholar on information science and IEEE Fellow, visited our school.
Prof. Li got Ph.D. degree from UC Berkeley in 1974, then he became a professor at MIT, Univ. of Illinois, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a founder of network coding theory, algebraic switching theory, and pattern matching martingale method. He was awarded 2017outstanding oversea Chinese scholar, 2016 IEEE Sumner Award and 2005 IT Society Best Paper Award.
Started from 10:15am, Prof. Li gave us a lecture on the puzzle of probability. He used an innovative and interested way to present the essence of probability, via the assistance of animation, drama, Chinese poem and proverb. After the lecture, Prof. Li visited the network science center of SIST. He gave a very high opinion of our research results and academic atmosphere. He wishes our SIST can keep the increasing trend in information science and become better and better!
