Professor Yi Ma, a full-time faculty member and the executive Dean of the ShanghaiTech School of Information Science and Technology (SIST), has been named a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher of 2016 (previously known as the famous Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researchers list: http://stateofinnovation.thomsonreuters.com/clarivate-analytics-presents-highly-cited-researchers-2016). This recognition reflects Yi's continuous contributions to the field of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision over the past 11 years as being among the most valuable and significant in the field.

The list identifies scientists “whose research has had significant global impact within their respective fields of study,” according to a statement from Clarivate Analytics (formerly the Intellectual Property and Science business of Thomson Reuters). Thomson Reuters is one of the world's most credible and respectful consulting organizations.

Earlier this year, Prof. Ma Yi was also found to be among the top 50 of the most influential Computer Science authors by a ranking made by Semantic Scholar, as reported by the Science magazine (http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2016/04/who-s-michael-jordan-computer-science-new-tool-ranks-researchers-influence). The ranking by the Semantic Scholar is not based on the number of papers and citations. Instead it applies machine-learning techniques to systematically analyze the influence of published works.

ShanghaiTech SIST is on its way to become an internationally renowned research institute. Under the leadership of professor Ma, we anticipate that more and more work by our distinguished faculty will exert increasing impact and influence on the international communities.

      Congratulations to Professor Ma!
