Abstract:

There is no doubt that the heart is one of the most important organs of a human body. Heart disease is the leading cause of death. Each year, a third of the total death in the world is caused by heart disease. In fact, this number may be significantly reduced by proper treatment given that the heart disease can be diagnosed in the early stage. Electrocardiograph (ECG) has been widely used as a non-invasive tool for clinical diagnosis of heart disease since it was developed a hundred years ago. It is also employed to measure the heart rate in wearable devices in recent years. This talk will give an overview on the origination of the ECG signal, the state-of-the-art technologies and algorithms for ECG acquisition and analysis, as well as its applications in both clinical diagnosis and ambulatory health monitoring.

Bio:

Dr. Lin Xu Joined the ShanghaiTech University in Sep. 2019 as a tenure-track Assistant Professor with SIST. He received his MSc from the University of Electronic Science and Technology in 2010, his Ph.D. degree from the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e Eindhoven, the Netherlands) in 2016. Then he worked as a post-doc researcher at the TU/e and a guest researcher at the Philips research. His research interests include biomedical signal processing and instrumentation, neuromuscular rehabilitation, ambulatory health monitoring, and brain-computer interface. Over these years, he has published over 20 of papers on top conferences and journals and won two best-paper awards. His research has been publicized by several Dutch medias and led to a high-tech spin-off company.

Dr. Xu is a member of the IEEE and ISEK. He also serves as a reviewer of many prestigious journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering; IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement; IEEE journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics; Journal of Neural Engineering.
