Next-generation medicine relies on Artificial Intelligence (AI), which improves computer-aided detection, diagnosis, prognosis, future risk assessment, and prediction of response to therapy through advanced clinical and imaging-based precision medicine. In ophthalmology, AI has been applied to ocular imaging, like fundus photographs and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Despite the high level of accuracy of the AI-based models in many of the diseases in ophthalmology, there are still many clinical and technical challenges for clinical implementation and real-time deployment of these models in clinical practice. These challenges could arise in different stages in both the AI research and clinical settings. By introducing several clinical projects, we try to identify challenges in building and deploying deep learning (DL) techniques from bench to bedside, and the gap between AI research and clinical practice.


郑策,新加坡国立大学博士,副主任医师,上海交通大学附属上海市儿童医院行政副主任,上海交通大学医学院硕士研究生导师,汕头大学•香港中文大学联合汕头国际眼科中心客座副教授。从事眼科学临床、教学、科研和管理工作十余年,专业方向为白内障、青光眼,眼科影像等。现任国家自然科学基金评审专家,“JAMA Ophthalmology”,“Current Eye Research”,“Medicine”,“中华眼视光学与视觉科学杂志”,“伤害医学”等杂志审稿专家。至今已在国内外著名期刊上发表SCI收录论文三十余篇,主持一项国家自然科学基金,并参与多项国外,国内和省级课题。中国医师协会循证医学专业委员会循证眼科学组委员,广东省医师协会眼科青年委员会委员,广东省医院协会医学影像中心管理专业委员会委员。掌握各种常见眼病的诊断和治疗,专长于白内障、青光眼的诊断及各种药物、激光和手术治疗。熟练开展超声乳化白内障摘除联合人工晶状体植入手术,青光眼小梁切除术,青光眼引流阀植入术等。参与“中华健康快车”手术扶贫工作,并获得中华健康快车基金会光明天使奖。
