ShanghaiTech Holds 1st Meeting of the University Board of Trustees

The first meeting of the University Board of Trustees was held on December 28th 2013. The attending members are:

Xu Kuangdi, Vice Chairman of 10th CPPCC National Committee; former Mayor of Shanghai, former President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Chairman of the University Council of the University
Zhou Xiaochuan, Vice Chairman of 12th CPPCC National Committee; Governor of the People's Bank of China.
Weng Tiehui, Vice Mayor of Shanghai; Deputy Head of the Working Group of ShanghaiTech.
Ding Zhongli, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Director of the Education Committee of CAS.
Fu Chengyu, Chairman of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation.
Jiang Mianheng, President of Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Branch; Chairman of the Executive Committee of Shanghaitech.
Zhu Zhiyuan, Executive Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Branch.

The meeting was chaired by Xu Kuangdi.

According to the By Laws of ShanghaiTech University approved by both CAS and Shanghai Municipality, the University Board of Trustees is the decision-making body of ShanghaiTech. It is composed of representatives from Shanghai Municipality, CAS, the university as well as expert from the industry. Its responsibilities include compiling and revising the By Laws, drafting the development strategy and plan; nominating the university President, appointing the administrative heads based on the President's nomination, reviewing the annual report, budget and final account, deciding the key issues of the university and etc,.

The meeting reviewed the vision and goals of the university, the current status of teaching, research, recruitment, the campus construction and annual report 2014. The meeting approved the University Board of Trustees Rules of Procedure, key position appointment, as well as the final accounts of 2013 and budget for 2014.

The University Board of Trustees pointed out that ShanghaiTech University has made considerable progress by reforming the university structure, management, nurturing of talents, human resource system and allocation of funding and has actively explored the deep integration of education, research and innovation. The members are confident that under the support of Ministry of Education, Shanghai Municipality, and the hard work of the all faculty and staff, ShanghaiTech will make new achievements in 2014.
