An introduction to Intel Labs and its efforts on wireless communications around 5G

Speaker: Feng Xue

Time: Jul 4, 2:00pm - 3:00pm.

Location: Room 410, Teaching Center

Abstract:

Computing and communication are two of the fundamental pillars supporting our modern and future societies. They are at the core of Intel’s innovations. In this short presentation, I will first explain the structure, focus areas, and collaboration models of Intel Labs - the main long-term R&D arm at Intel. Then I will focus on the research effort towards future wireless communication systems, e.g. 5G and device innovations. A set of example projects on 5G will be quickly covered.

Bio:

Feng Xue is a senior research scientist at the Wireless Communication Research Lab, Intel Labs. He has been based in the Silicon Valley, except a short stint at the Qualcomm R&D center in southern California.  Working on 4G/5G, connectivity, and device innovations, he is also interested in fundamental research such as multi-user information theory and optimization in stochastic systems. Feng has published more than 30 papers, filed more than 60 patents, and is a co-author of the first book on wireless scaling laws. He got his PhD from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, MS from the Systems Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and BS from Shandong University.
