Dr. Qian, Hua received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Tsinghua University in 1998 and 2000, respectively.  He received the PhD degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2005.  After graduation, he joined Chrontel, Inc. from 2005 to 2006 as a digital design engineer.  He joined Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. from 2006 to 2010 as a staff design engineer.  From 2010 to 2015, he was honored the 100 Talent Program and joined Shanghai Research Center for Wireless Communications, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology (SIMIT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) as a full professor.  Since 2016, he joined Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI), CAS as a full professor.  Since 2012, he was also affiliated with ShanghaiTech University as an adjunct professor.
Dr. Qian has more than 10 years R&D experience in signal processing, wireless communications and ASIC design.  He is currently a senior member of IEEE.  He was a member of the academic degrees committee in SIMIT, CAS from 2011 to 2015.  He has co-authored 2 book chapters, published 70 SCI/EI indexed papers and applied for 50 patents, including 4 granted U.S. patents.  He was the general chair of the international conference WICON’2013.  He also served as TPC members of many international conferences and reviewed more than 200 manuscripts for international journals and conferences.
Dr. Qian’s industry experience in the U.S. mainly focused on the physical layer algorithms and implementations of the wireless communication systems.  He is an expert in system level optimization of the RF/analog front end and the digital baseband system.  He has extensive experience in implementation and commercialization of wireless communication systems.  He was in charge of the system development of many wireless SoCs including WiFi, Bluetooth and all the SoCs are in volume production.
After Dr. Qian joined CAS, his achievements include: 1. Developed WiFi (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac) algorithm, prototype, SoCs, and test instrument (1st in China); 2. Developed Beidou/GPS SoC in 40 nm CMOS (1st in China); 3. Studied and prototyped vehicular wireless networks towards intelligent driving; 3. Made numerous contributions to the fundamentals of low power wireless sensor networks, including coding and modulations for small packets, nonlinear signal processing for wireless radio front end, big data signal processing, etc.  As a key team member, he was awarded 2016 Technology Invention Award by China Communication Association (1st prize), 2015 Technology Invention Award by China Communication Association (1st prize), 2015 Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award (2nd prize), 2014 Innovation Team by Ministry of Science and Technology.  He was also awarded Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program and 100 Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011 and 2010, respectively.
After Dr. Qian joined CAS, he has supervised 1 postdoctoral fellow, 5 PhD students, and 5 master students.  Dr. Qian’s current research focus includes wireless communications, nonlinear signal processing and distributed signal processing.
