Between March 31st and April 4th 2017 RoboCup China was held in Rizhao, Shandong. A team of five students of ShanghaiTech University and Prof. Sören Schwertfeger participated in the RoboCup Rescue league. The team was comprised of graduate students of the ShanghaiTech Automation and Robotics Lab and is thus called “STAR Rescue”.
In the competition the very early prototype of a small and cheap rescue robot was tested. It is using a smartphone as the main computation, sensing and communication unit, which is directly connected to four smart servo motors for locomotion. The team achieved all its goals: Learn about RoboCup Rescue, thoroughly test the robot, score more than 0 points and have fun. It was lots of work but lead to very nice progress on the STAR Rescue project. See more pictures and a video at: https://robotics.shanghaitech.edu.cn/node/147
