Introduction to Phased Array

Speaker:     Prof.Yong Ching Lim

Time:        10:00-11:00, Jan. 9

Location:    SIST 1A 200

Host:          Prof.Yajun Ha

This lecture talk is an introduction to phased array aiming at introducing basic principles and commonly used terminologies of phased array to beginners. Radiation patterns of both narrow-band and wide-band arrays are derived from first principle. Finally, the relationship between radiation pattern of an array and the frequency response of a digital filter is derived for the benefit of those who are already familiar with digital filter design.

Dr. Lim received the ACGI (1977), BSc (1977), DIC (1980), and PhD (1980) degrees from Imperial College, London. He was with Naval Postgraduate School (1980 to 1982), National University of Singapore (1982 to 2003), and Nanyang Technological University (2003 to 2018). He was the first author recipient of the 1996 IEEE Circuits and Systems Society’s Guillemin-Cauer Best Paper Award and the first author recipient of the 1990 IREE (Australia) Norman Hayes Memorial Best Paper Award. Dr Lim is a Life Fellow of the IEEE. He served as a distinguished lecturer of the IEEE CAS Society from 2001 to 2002.
